2017 Award winners

In 2017 there were 45 applicants and 12 candidates attended for interview. The interview panel from the Trustees was Mr. Geoffrey Glazer Surgeon, Dr Michael Harding GP and Ms. Susan Smith Healthcare Executive. A total of £78,000 has been awarded in grants to the 12 candidates interviewed.


Sulaiman is an ST7 on the Royal London rotation and will undertake an adult hip and knee arthroplasty fellowship in the Division of Lower Limb Reconstruction, Department of Orthopaedics, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada for a period of 12 months commencing in July 2018.


James is an academic clinical lecturer and sub-specialty trainee at Belfast City Hospital. He will visit The Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane Australia. His specialty interest is gynaecological surgical oncology and he is planning to develop an integrated ovarian cancer service for Northern Ireland. He commences in February 2018 for 12 months.


John is a ST6 OMFS at within the Severn Deanery. He will be furthering his knowledge in head and neck surgical oncology and reconstruction at the University of Florida, Jacksonville, Florida, USA. He is going for 12 months commencing in July 2018.


Oliver is a ST8 ENT at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He will pursue an International Fellowship in head and neck surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide, Australia. He commences in February 2018 for 18 months.


Christopher is a ST6 at the Salford Royal Hospital and has commenced his Fellowship in interventional radiology at the Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto, Canada. He started in July 2017 for 12 months.


Nikolaos is a senior clinical fellow in oculoplastics at the Royal Free Hospital, London. He will pursue a fellowship in oculoplastics and orbital surgery at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He commences in January 2018 for 12 months.


James is currently a senior clinical fellow in hand surgery at University hospital Southampton. He will undertake a clinical and research fellowship in upper limb trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. He starts in February 2018 for 12 months.


Alistair is a ST8 in ENT at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He will be an Otology Fellow at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne Australia. He commences in August 2018 for 12 months


Krunal is a post CCT Fellow in neurosurgery in Cambridge. His project is ‘Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery – A North America Approach’. He will be at Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto, Canada for 12 months from January 2018.


Oliver is a ST8 general surgery registrar. He will pursue a colorectal surgery fellowship at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. He commences in February 2018 for 12 months.


Kareem is in the Wessex/Oxford Deanery at University Hospital Southampton as a specialty registrar in cardiothoracic surgery. He is planning to go to the OLV Hospital in Aalst, Belgium to further his knowledge in minimally invasive mitral valve surgery. He commences in August 2018 for 12 months.


Sidhartha is a ST8 in Basildon and Thurrock Hospital. He has an advanced endovascular fellowship in vascular surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery University of Toronto. He commences in July 2018 for 12 months.
