The 2013 Award Winners

In 2013 12 candidates were selected for interview. A panel of HCA Foundation Trustees, Mr. Geoffrey Glazer Consultant Surgeon, Dr. Michael Harding General Practitioner and Susan Smith interviewed these candidates. A total grant amount of £70,000 was allocated.

Alexander Aarvold

Alex is currently a ST7 at The Royal Hampshire Hospital, Winchester. He will be going to the University of British Columbia Children’s Hospital, Vancouver, Canada for an Out of Programme Training year from August 2014. He has a Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery.

Richard Baker

Richard is on the Specialty Training Register in Plastic Surgery and is currently at the Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. He has a two-month placement at the Institute of Plastic and Hand Surgery, Santander, Spain. He will study advanced techniques in arthroscopy and microvascular reconstruction of the upper limb under the supervision of Dr. Carlos Galindo Rubin

Pervinder Bhogal

Paul (Pervinder) has been undertaking a pan-London Neuroradiology Fellowship. He is commencing at the Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden in January 2014. His project is to study the advanced neurointerventional management of acute thrombo-embolic stroke under the supervision of Dr. Tommy Andersson.

Bedansh Roy Chaudhary

Roy is a ST8 Surgical registrar at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. He has a Fellowship position in Complex Spinal Surgery and Spinal Cord Injury at the Krembil Neurosciences Centre, Toronto Western Hospital, Canada and is starting in January 2014 for 12 months with Prof. Fehlings.

Vivienne Ezzat

Vivienne is a post CCT cardiology StR at the Heart Hospital, London. She will be going to the Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Sick Children’s Hospital in February 2014 for 12 months. She will be studying advanced techniques in catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmia and device implantation in patients with Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

Ahmed Ibrahim

Ahmed has commenced his Spinal Fellowship at the University of Toronto, Toronto Western Hospital, Krembil Neurosciences Centre,  Canada. He commenced in July 2013 for 12 months with Professor Fehlings.

Sujith Konan

Sujith is undertaking his specialist registrar training in trauma and orthopaedics on the NE Thames Training Rotation, London. In January 2014 he will be doing an Orthopaedic Reconstruction Fellowship at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals, Vancouver, Canada.

Enyinnaya Ofo

Eny is currently a specialist registrar in Otolaryngology on the South East Thames Rotation and is at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Head and Neck Unit. In February 2014 he will commence as a fellow in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia. He will enhance his surgical expertise by training in Transoral laser microsurgery and Transoral robotic surgery.

Neil Rane

Neil has recently been appointed as a locum Consultant in interventional neuroradiology in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, Scotland. He will be going to Australia, The Royal Melbourne Hospital in February 2014 for 12 months to study the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disease

Saket Tibrewal

Saket is undergoing his specialty orthopaedic training on the Percival Pott Rotation with the London Deanery. In July 2014 he will start an Arthroplasty, Pelvic and Polytrauma Fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia.

David Yeoh

David is a ST7 in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust. He has a Hand Surgery Fellowship at Middlemore Hospital, Auckland New Zealand starting in June 2014 for 12 months.

Vincent Yip

Vincent is completing his higher surgical training in the Mersey Deanery in upper gastrointestinal (surgical-oncology). Hepato-pancreato-biliary is his sub-specialty. He will take a Fellowship to study the advanced surgical management of Hepatocellular carcinoma, resection for cirrhotic liver and Live-related liver donor transplant. He will be at the University of Hong Kong with Professor Poon for 12 months
